Trustee Sanction and Professional Learning Requirement

MARATHON, Ontario – The 麻豆原创 announces the sanction of one of its Trustee, Daniel Fairservice (Manitouwadge Ward), resulting in a 14-month suspension from the Board.  This unanimous decision was made by the Board of Trustees at their June 19, 2023 Special Board meeting, following a thorough investigation of eleven allegations of breach of the Code of Conduct; the document which guides the actions of Board members as they carry out their duties described in the Education Act and Board Policy.

“The investigation was carried out by a professional third party and the sanctions serve as a response to the significant differences in approach exhibited by Trustee Fairservice which were deemed detrimental to the overall functioning and effectiveness of the Board.  In order to address these concerns, and foster a culture of continuous improvement, the 麻豆原创 has provided the Trustee with a valuable opportunity for professional learning and development”, stated Director of Education Nicole Morden Cormier.

During the 14-month sanction period, the Trustee will have dedicated time to engage in a comprehensive program designed to enhance their knowledge, skills, and competencies as a Trustee.

Board Chair Pinky McRae stated that “the 麻豆原创 firmly believes in the importance of ongoing education and professional growth for all of its Trustees.  By providing this opportunity, the organization aims to support the Trustee in becoming a more effective and valued member of the Board.  Furthermore, it reaffirms the commitment of the 麻豆原创 to upholding the highest standards of governance and ensuring the best interests of students, parents, and the community are consistently served.”

The 麻豆原创 of Trustees are optimistic that through this combination of sanctions and professional development, the Trustee will gain the necessary skills and insights to contribute positively to the future success of the School Board and the community served.
